Economical Structural Light Concrete Using Scoria Rock as Coarse Aggregate Substitution
Last modified: 2021-11-20
Abstract
Abstract. Concrete is one of primary aspects of a building, however It has disadvantage which is its own weight that impacts the building’s endurance towards earthquake. Therefore, innovation is needed to make more secure and sturdy building by using lighter concrete. This lighter-weight concrete could be acquired by replacing coarse aggregate with Scoria Rock. According to Hendro Suseno’s experiment (2013), the application of Scoria Rock as alternative material resulting concrete’s optimal compressive strength of 23,4 MPa and bulk density of 1839,69 Kg/m3 approximately. Moreover, Scoria Rock is more economical than artificial coarse aggregate because Scoria Rock is natural coarse aggregate which comes from volcanic activity and could be found along volcanic mudflow.
