Effectiveness of Ozone Concentration and Exposure Time to Inactivate SARS-CoV-2 at Sterilization Chamber
Last modified: 2021-11-15
Abstract
This research is focused to determine the time required for ozone generator to produce ozone in the sterilization chamber until reach effective ozone concentration to disinfect the surface of object that contaminated with SARS-CoV-2. Ozone can be generated in situ by means of small, compact ozone generators, using dried ambient air as a precursor. It should be injected into the room that is to be disinfected until the desired ozone concentration is reached. There was no amplification of SARS-CoV-2 after giving ozone with following time and concentration : 30 second at 20 gr/m3 , 5 minute at 8 gr/m3 , and 10 minute at 4 gr/m3 at relative humidity around 53-65%. At lower ozone concentrations (0.008-0.013 gr/m3 ) with higher relative humidity around 99%, SARS-CoV-2 was completely eliminated after 30 minute. From the results, we calculate ozone needs for a chamber sterilization with capacity of 50 x 30 x 30 cm3 . Ozone will produced from portable ceramic ozone generator with capacity 20 gr/h. From the calculation, we found that ozone concentration of 4 gr/m3 , 8 gr/m3 , and 20 gr/m3 can be reached after 33 second, 1 minute 5 second, and 2 minute and 44 second, respectively. This data time will be a reference for us to design an ozone sterilization chamber to disinfect the object surface.
